Spring is in the Air! 5 Tips for Getting the Family Outdoors

Spring is in the air, the sun is shining, and it’s time to get your kids outside! Did you know that our bodies can receive extraordinary health benefits from just a few moments in the sun? Spending time outdoors has been proven to reduce stress, improve vision and mood, and increase brain function. Here are a few ways you and your family can get outside and soak up the sun:

  1. Theme Parks
Living in Florida definitely has it perks. Easy access to a variety of theme parks is one of them. Before it gets too hot and the parks get too crowded, plan a couple weekend trips to Disney or Universal and get some fresh air and good entertainment. But before you leave, make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen. Most Floridians completely forget about sunscreen unless they’re on a boat or at the beach but extended periods of time outdoors can quickly lead to sun damage. Click this link to learn more about how to prevent sun damage, the warning signs of a sunburn and what to do in the event your child does get sunburnt.
  1. Beach Days
Another advantage of living in Florida is our proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you’re in the Melbourne area, check out the Coconut Point Park Access. For our families in the Cocoa Beach area, one of our favorite beach access points is the Robert P. Murshke Memorial Park. Weekend trips to the beach are an excellent opportunity to get your kids outdoors and tuckered out for a quiet drive home.
  1. Dog Walks
Does your family have a furry companion? Taking your dog for a couple laps around the block is not only good exercise for your family and your pet but it is also a convenient way to get some outside time.
  1. Playing Catch, Soccer, Basketball
A big pastime for many parents is playing sports with their parents in the backyard. Tossing the ball around or shooting some hoops after school can be a great way to relieve stress, bond with your kids, and spend some time outside.
  1. Helping with gardening
If your kids aren’t really into sports and your family doesn’t own a dog, another great way to get the family outside is by starting an outdoor project, like gardening. Developing new hobbies with your children is a great way to get them out of the house and away from their screens.
