Ideas for Your Next Mommy and Me Day Together

Mother’s Day has just passed, meaning we just celebrated all of the moms and mother-like figures that we have in our lives. But moms are often called “superheroes,” for going above and beyond for their families. It might be time for families to appreciate and enjoy each other’s company more than just once a year. Besides, quality time and one-on-one time together are precisely what makes some of the best memories.

A great way to implement this into your lives is Mommy-and-Me dates! Children can sometimes act like puppies in the sense that they crave your attention. While teaching them patience is also crucial, it is still important to segment one-on-one time with your child, especially with each one it is a household of siblings. It can help prevent sibling chiding and arguments, while also building the special bond between mother and child. Here are some fun ideas you can incorporate or model your next Mommy-and-Me day around:

Hit the Kitchen:

Don’t let the possibility of making a mess deter you from making fun memories either learning to cook, baking, or experimenting with fun or crazy recipes! If a mess does occur, learn to laugh at the cloud of flour in the air or the egg yolk that didn’t quite make it into the bowl. Use it as a lesson in disguise that it’s okay to make mistakes, and the importance of cleaning up afterward. You’ll have a sous chef in the house before you know it.

Get active:

Not only can taking a nice stroll around your neighborhood or local park be a nice way to spend quality time, but it’s also a great opportunity to get some fresh air. School-aged children are advised to get 60 minutes of physical activity each day. While recess at school can typically take up half of that time, you can do a fun activity together like going bike riding, hiking, mini-golfing, fishing, or even a water balloon fight!

Be “Fancy” for a Day:

Don’t you remember when you were little, and a grown-up allowed you to try on their makeup and heels or ties and suspenders just for fun? Kids love feeling all-grown-up! If your child is age-appropriate, try dressing up nicely and going to a fancier “adult” restaurant. Other options could be having a “posh” tea party, a trip to the spa, attending a play, or making your own fancy day at home in robes with a movie marathon and snacks!
